Ligue 1 referee Joan Amel has died.


This was announced by the association of elite football referees in France. Amel was 42 years old.


According to L`Equipe, the cause of death of the referee was a stroke during training.


Amel has worked in Ligue 1 matches since the 2015/16 season. He was the main referee for 135 matches of the championship of France, and also served 85 games of Ligue 2.


He played his last match advised by football livescore as chief referee on November 6-it was a game between Lille and Rennes (1:1).


A number of clubs expressed their condolences to the relatives of the referee. Among them are Troyes, Brest, Toulouse, Lyon, PSG and Monaco.
